Masks/Face Coverings for all of Victoria

From Monday August 2nd all Victorians will need to wear a face covering when leaving home unless you have a lawful exception. Children under 12 do not need to wear face coverings and children under two years old must not wear face coverings. Face covings can be a shield, scarf, bandana commercial mask or you can make your own.

People may be fined $200 if not wearing a face covering, there are some other exemptions for illness, exercise and some work cases. Follow the link below for full restriction details.

Other States and Territories

Other states and Territories in Australia have not mandated the wearing of masks.

In NSW people are asked to wear a mask when physical distancing can’t be guaranteed, if you have symptoms and are seeking medical advice, or if you are in isolation in the same room as another person.

In Queensland You don’t need to wear a face mask unless your doctor has told you to or you are caring for someone who might have COVID-19.

In Canberra people generally did not need to wear a mask if they are healthy.

“This is especially true given there is no evidence of community transmission in the ACT,” the COVID-19 ACT website states.

They should use a mask if they have COVID-19 symptoms including coughing and sneezing.

ACT Health says a mask should be used by anyone who has, or is suspected to have, coronavirus.

Woolworths

Customers in ACT, NSW and parts of Queensland will be urged to wear masks at Woolworths stores from Monday. This advice covers Woolworths Supermarkets, Big W, BWS, Dan Murphys, Woolworths Metro and ALH Hotels.

Shoppers would not be turned away if they don’t comply.

Other countries

Germany

Germany introduced the wearing of face masks in shops, supermarkets and on buses and trains in April and consideration was being given to removing the requirements. Recent increases in COVID-19 numbers now means that mask wearing will continue throughout Germany.
